Financial reporting and dashboards for San Diego businesses
Reports that answer the questions you actually ask, delivered on a schedule you can count on.

Accurate books are necessary, but a balance sheet alone rarely tells an owner what to do next. The questions that matter are more specific. Which department is over budget? Which customers are slow to pay? How much cash will we have in three weeks? Good financial reporting answers those questions directly, in a format the people running the business will actually read.
Skyward builds monthly financial reporting and live dashboards for businesses and nonprofits across San Diego County and North County. We start with clean, timely financial statements, then layer on the views your team needs: budget versus actual by department, accounts receivable and payable aging, weekly cash reporting and KPI dashboards. Each report has a clear owner, a regular delivery date and a short explanation of what changed.
The tools are chosen to fit how you work. Leela, our Accounting Director, builds automated dashboards in Power BI and Power Query that refresh from your accounting data. Connor builds the Excel and Google Sheets models behind budgets and forecasts. The aim is less manual spreadsheet work and more time spent acting on the numbers.
Who it's for
- Owners who receive statements but are not sure what they are telling them
- Leadership teams that need department-level budget versus actual reporting
- Businesses that rebuild the same spreadsheet by hand every month
- Nonprofits that report to boards and funders on program spending
- Companies that need to watch cash and receivables weekly, not monthly
What's included
Financial Reporting & Dashboards,done properly.
01
Monthly financial statements
A profit and loss statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement delivered on the same schedule every month. Each package includes a plain-English summary of the main changes. Comparisons to the prior month and prior year make trends easy to see.
02
Budget versus actual by department
We compare actual results to budget for each department, program or location. Variances are highlighted and explained so managers know where they stand. Responsibility for spending becomes clear and measurable.
03
AR, AP and weekly cash reporting
Aging reports show who owes you money, for how long, and what you owe and when it is due. Weekly cash reporting gives you a short, reliable view of the cash position. Together they help you manage collections and payments before they become a problem.
04
KPI dashboards
We design dashboards around the few metrics that drive your business and connect them to your accounting data. Dashboards in Power BI refresh automatically; Excel and Google Sheets versions suit teams that prefer to work in spreadsheets. Everyone sees the same numbers, defined the same way.
05
Custom reports and metrics
Some questions need a report built for them, such as margin by product line or revenue by customer segment. We build custom reports that turn your data into business intelligence. Once built, they become part of the regular reporting cycle.

FAQ
Financial Reporting & Dashboardsquestions.
Should our dashboards be in Power BI, Excel or Google Sheets?
It depends on who uses them and how. Power BI is best for automated, interactive dashboards that refresh from your accounting data and are shared across a team. Excel and Google Sheets suit smaller teams or reports that people want to adjust themselves. We often use more than one, choosing the tool that fits each audience.
What KPIs should a small business track?
The right KPIs depend on what drives your business, which is why we design them with you rather than handing over a standard list. Common examples include gross margin, cash runway, days sales outstanding, revenue per employee and budget variance by department. We aim for a short list that leadership reviews every month.
Can you build reports from our existing QuickBooks data?
Yes. QuickBooks Online is the starting point for most of our reporting. If the chart of accounts or classifications need work before reports can be trusted, we will address that first, because a dashboard is only as good as the data behind it.
How soon after month end will we receive our financials?
We agree on a delivery date during onboarding and hold to it every month. A predictable schedule matters more than an occasional early report, because your team can plan meetings and decisions around it.
